Teeth Whitening – Step By Step

The Perfect Teeth Whitening Protocol – Step By Step

Step One

After a full consultation ensuring that you are suitable for teeth whitening your Pearlys teeth whitening specialist will check the current shade of your teeth using a dental shade guide and make sure that you agree with the assessment.

Step Two

A cheek retractor will then be put into your mouth to comfortably hold your lips and tongue away from your teeth. Your practitioner will then apply a ‘desensitiser’ onto your teeth to help prevent any hightened sensitivity that may be caused by whitening. Next a gum dam will be applied along the gum line and hardened with an ultra-violet light. This forms a protective barrier for the gums.

Step Three

Whitening gel will then be applied to the teeth – usually the front top and bottom 10 teeth can be reached during in-clinic whitening. The whitening gel will then be activated with a special light for 8-10 minutes whilst you relax.

Step Four

The third step is repeated twice more to complete the in-clinic part of your treatment. Your post-laser teeth shade will then be assessed and compared with your pre-laser shade. On average our clients will see an 8-12 shade improvement at this stage.

Final Step – Customised Home-kit

In order to see the best and longest-lasting results you need to use a Pearlys bespoke home-kit.

For the home-kit you will be shown how to take a simple impression of your teeth which will be used by our Pearlys laboratory to fabricate customised trays that exactly fit your teeth. This is so important because poorly fitting trays will at best give a very poor and uneven whitening result and at worst hurt and potentially damage your gums.

The home-kit is used to either further whiten the teeth or to maintain the whiter smile in the months and years to come. The whitening gel that comes with the home-kit will last for 2 years without losing efficacy, as long as it’s kept in the fridge.
